Stay in the Wye Valley is a group of three friends based within two miles of each other in St Briavels and Hewelsfield on the slopes of the Wye Valley in Gloucestershire.

We are not an agency, but friends co-operating with each other for our guests. We each have an attached or detached annexe available for holidays on a weekly or short break basis. We have considerable local knowledge between us and can advise on walks, visits, tours, activities, entertainment and restaurants in the area. We have beautiful accessible scenery, extensive tourist attractions and excellent towns for shopping all either within walking distance or up to an hours' drive. The whole of the Lower Wye Valley is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and together with the adjoining Forest of Dean provide a huge resource of historical castles, churches and monuments.
Activities include walking, biking, motoring, fishing, canoeing, boating, golf (Ryder Cup 2010 only 40 minutes drive) and various outdoor adventures. If you are looking for culture and entertainment there are some superb theatres and local cinemas as well as eating out at excellent restaurants and pubs – double AA rosette and Michelin star restaurants within 5 and 10 minutes drive. Throughout the year there are festivals, shows and concerts in the area which can make a holiday here extra special.

Between us we can accommodate parties of up to eight adults wanting a joint holiday but with independent accommodation. By special arrangement we can organise guided walks or  tours in the area for such parties at very reasonable rates.

Spectacular views both westward over the Wye Valley to the Brecon Beacons and eastward over the Forest of Dean make the Coach House an ideal base for exploring the area. Directly adjacent to the owners’ house on the edge of St Briavels and just a few minutes walk to the Castle, Church and two pubs, the detached and self-contained Coach House is full of character with a country style feel. It has two bedrooms and has recently been fully modernised to a high standard with a blend of new and restored furniture. Heat is provided from renewable energy by a ground source heat pump. A small private courtyard at the rear is the perfect place for watching the sun set over the distant mountains.

Commanding a magnificent view of the Wye Valley framed by scots pines sitting high up on a private road, Hunters Lodge Retreat comprises the entire end of a substantial Victorian house with high ceilings, beautifully furnished and decorated. The owners of the house, George and Rebecca, are both painters, inspired by the local landscape and quiet surroundings. They love to speak about art and offer tuition if requested. The accommodation is spacious with a large bedroom that has both a single and a double bed. The area has a network of winding lanes and footpaths and a short walk will take you to the Village Shop and Café, a lively centre of activity for the local community.

Very secluded and quiet at the end of a ¼ mile drive set in woodland surrounded by garden, vegetables, fruits and a few chickens, ducks, geese and sheep. An ideal ‘get away from it all’. The Old Goat House is a converted stone stable near the main house with its own stone-walled garden. The accommodation is self-contained and private with bathroom, kitchen/diner and a spacious bedroom which also serves as a sitting room with patio doors leading to the private terrace and garden. A wonderful base for walking and wildlife in a peaceful setting – 20 minutes walk takes you either uphill to St Briavels Castle and pubs, or down, past the Offa’s Dyke to the River Wye.
